Liquid Measurements Checklist for Home Brewing

Liquid measurements tick chart for home brewing by naffordjunction.co.uk

Home brewing beer requires a lot of hot liquid and keeping a note of the quantities can be tricky. This post gives you a checklist so you never make a mistake with measurements again.

Why need a tick chart?

The stock pot that I use for home brewing is quite a beast. Filling it with various quantities of boiling water, from 6 litres to 17 litres, takes a bit of coordination. I am using my kettle and pans on the cooker to heat up water before adding to my stock pot. With lots to remember when brewing with grain I have forgotten how much water I’d added to the pot. And, being somebody that is all about the planning, I thought a checklist would help.

My first home brewing checklist

The first version of my home brewing checklist was a quick sketch on a notepad. The images below show the versions I used to track measuring, preparing, and adding to the stock pot.

Your home brewing tick chart

I created this checklist on Google Sheets that is free for all to copy, use, and improve.

Explaining each column in the checklist

  1. Container 1 = Keep track of the amount of liquid you have measured and are heating up
  2. Container 2 = Keep track of the amount of liquid you have measured and are heating up
  3. Container 3 = Keep track of the amount of liquid you have measured and are heating up
  4. Complete = As you transfer liquid, remove the amount from ‘container’ and add to ‘complete’
  5. Note = I used this to make a note if some of the water was cold
